Christchurch, New Zealand
First stop after the States was New Zealand. Here we stayed a couple of
days. What can I say? We knew this would be a tough job.
To the Pole
From Christchurch we flew to McMurdo station. After a couple of days we
boarded an LC-130 and headed for the Pole. The planes aren't supposed
to land if it's below -50 Celsius. I was on the first plane of the season.
We landed at around -54 Celsius.
Digging out the Crashed C-130
I spent my birthday digging out an old crashed LC-130.
Snow Stakes Run
Snow stakes measuring on the Pole gives us a chance to get out and away
from the station. You really realize how remote this place is.
McMurdo
Before wintering, Polies with year contracts are given a week to rest
and relax at McMurdo Station (Mactown.) They used to send us to
Christchurch, New Zealand, but too many people just wouldn't return
to the ice. Imagine that!

Here's a collection of my favorite pictures.
